The Tub Chair by Kurt Østervig

In 1958, Danish furniture architect, Kurt Østervig, designed a chair named 57A, also known as The Tub Chair. The characteristic chair with the shape of a tub has now been relaunched by Danish design brand Klassik Studio. The Tub Chair, is officially presented at Stockholm Furniture & Light Fair 2020.

Craftmanship

With an elegant and soft appearance, The Tub Chair maintains its relevance even though its been 62 years. The Tub Chair was shown for the first time at the yearly Købestævne in Fredericia, Denmark and has since then become one of the most recognized and sought-after designs by Kurt Østervig. The Tub Chair is a great example of the furniture architects understanding of upholstery and carpentry united in one piece of furniture.

Shape and Comfort

The Tub Chair is produced with a sled base, that is available in either oak or walnut. Sled base chairs were popular in the 50’s, where other well-known architects made chairs based on similar frames.

The characteristic round tub shape of the chair forms both the back- and armrests and embraces the body comfortably, when you sit in the chair. There is a wide assortment of upholstery options for The Tub Chair; including several textiles and leathers as well as sheep skin.
