The Meadmore Collection from Grazia & Co

Grazia & Co. relaunches the Meadmore collection by Clement Meadmore. The seating and table range offers a fresh perspective on timeless classics.

As one of Australia’s most unique and important designers, Clement Meadmore’s contribution to Australian design is unparalleled. His early designs—now considered Australian design classics—have been out of production for over six decades making original examples rare and highly sought after by collectors and public institutions.

To meet this ongoing interest in Meadmore’s body of work, Grazia & Co have worked closely with the Meadmore family, as well as Meadmore scholars and collectors Jeromie Maver and Dean Keep, to reintroduce some of his most iconic furniture and lighting pieces to the market. Selected for their contemporary appeal, Grazia & Co have reimagined these designs to ensure they remain relevant for modern living, while staying true to Meadmore’s original design legacy.

"We are delighted to see these enduring designs brought back to life, ready to inspire a new generation. Grazia's team has faithfully honored Clem's vision, adapting it for modern living,” remarks Quentin and Jade Meadmore, Clement Meadmore’s son and granddaughter.

The Corded Furniture Collection

The Corded furniture range marked Meadmore’s debut in commercial design. Introduced in 1951, the Corded chair quickly became an iconic piece of Australian design, still captivating audiences more than 70 years later. It was met with enthusiastic acclaim from Melbourne’s design and architecture community, earning the prestigious Good Design Award from the Society of Interior Designers of Australia (SIDA) in 1953. Building on the chair’s success, Meadmore went on to expand the range with the addition of a corded armchair, stool, and recliner.

The Leather Sling Chair, Model 248

The Leather Sling Chair, Model 248 (1963), is celebrated for its design excellence and was acquired by the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1967 for its permanent collection. Reflecting Grazia & Co’s commitment to sustainability, the chair is now produced with a polished stainless steel frame featuring a low-maintenance mirror finish, eliminating the need for chrome plating. Its sling is hand-stitched from premium saddle leather, available in natural, black, and olive tones. Reintroduced into production at the request of Quentin Meadmore, the chair holds special significance as his personal favorite among his father’s furniture designs.

The Meadmore Side Table

The Side Table (1954) reflects Meadmore’s deep appreciation for geometry and the principles of De Stijl, with its distinctive triangular frame elements. Though minimalist in appearance, its thoughtful design offers exceptional stability. Recognizing the importance of Meadmore’s work within the context of iconic mid-century design, Grazia & Co has reimagined the Side Table for contemporary indoor and outdoor settings. Offered in two sizes, the table features a durable stainless steel frame paired with tops in Jarrah, Spotted Gum, or a curated selection of natural stone.

Throughout his career, Meadmore received widespread acclaim for his ability to merge industrial materials with expressive artistic vision, solidifying his place as one of the most significant industrial designers of his time.
