Hollola, Finland
Ornäs was born out of a desire to continue the impressive and groundbreaking life’s work of Scandinavian design pioneer Carl-Gustaf Hiort af Ornäs (1911–1996).
The story dates back to 1945 when Hiort af Ornäs established a joinery shop in Helsinki’s Lauttasaari in order to be able to cooperate seamlessly with furniture makers. Today, Ornäs still works by the same values that guided the work of Hiort af Ornäs many decades ago, sharing his belief in quality, craftsmanship and carefully applied details. The design philosophy is encapsulated in these values that create the spirit of Ornäs.
Design classics by Hiort af Ornäs form the core of the collection, and are faithful to his design philosophy in the design of new products. The unique design heritage is brought to life in a workshop in Finland through the hands of master furniture makers, one beautifully finished chair at a time.
