"Umu," or 有無 in Japanese kanji, means to exist and not exist. This bedroom collection by Neri&Hu is inspired by the Chinese aesthetic philosophy of xu shi xiang sheng — a pairing of opposing words, xu meaning void and shi meaning real. The notion is one of interdependence: "solid" and "void" together create "space" as we know it.

The wardrobe replaces doors with an open frame around a hanging rail, sets a three-drawer bank into one side, and suspends a round mirror from the structure above — so dressing happens at the wardrobe rather than in a mirror across the room. Solid and void, held in one piece.
