Founded in 2023 by Elizabeth Matre-Aas and Ole Kristian Bergsjø Aas, Matre is a Norwegian furniture company dedicated to preserving and advancing the country’s design heritage. Working with skilled Norwegian producers, Matre develops new designs and revives rediscovered classics with a focus on uncompromising quality, craftsmanship, and longevity.

The House of Making
ARIAKE | ORIGIN MADE | PARACHILNA
Earlier this June, three of our brands — Ariake, Origin Made, and Parachilna — took up residence at Asia House, a storied 1898 trading house on the old harbour, as part of The House of Making: a joint exhibition curated by Gabriel Tan bringing together five independently owned, craft-focused design brands from Japan, Portugal, Spain, Germany, and the US.
The premise was simple, and a little rebellious in an industry built on polished final shots. We live surrounded by finished things — objects that arrive in our homes complete and resolved, their histories of trial and transformation invisible to us. The House of Making pulled back the curtain: sketches, prototypes, raw materials, and the tools of the trade sat alongside the finished pieces, tracing the journey from idea to object. Part showcase, part love letter to artistry and craft.
